<image:caption>This class is geared to those with little or no clay experience! Classes are in person! The class takes place on a day when the studio is “closed” to members. Over the course of 6 weeks, you'll learn about the different stages clay goes through during the making process, as well as the tools and techniques used to create wheel thrown pottery. We'll teach you how to design and glaze your pieces, and you’ll be able to use everything you make once you’ve finished the 6-week course! Includes: Half bag of clay (12.5lbs block) Firing/baking of your pottery Glazes/materials Use of studio machinery, tools and equipment 18"x14"x15" personal shelf storage space at CLAYFOLK Access to Open Studio Hours: Thursday-Monday 12 PM-7 PM. This access is unlimited during the 6-week course! 2 hour class session in studio, meet new people, and ask your instructor questions while practicing! Projects include: Cylinders/cups, bowls, dishes, glazing of your wares, and more! Follow-up class suggestions: Repeat Intro to Wheel 2-3 times then register for in-studio membership or intermediate and/or advanced courses and workshops! FAQ: Q: Can I make up a class? A: Unfortunately not, we recommend you do everything you can to make each class as each has important information, but you do have open studio time all week to come and play. Q: When are Open Studio Hours? A: Student open studio hours are Thursday-Monday from 12 PM - 7 PM. Hours are subject to change during workshop days, but 7 days notice will be given to students. Q: What’s the age limit for the class? A: 16. Anyone 16 or older may be present without a guardian as long as their guardian has signed the student agreement for them. Q: Can I bring my child? A: Sadly not to the class. This said we welcome kids during open studio hours - parents can simply pay a child day pass fee ($15) for their child and come and go from the studio for the duration of that day. Q: What if I, another student or the teacher test positive for COVID? A: If you test positive, we apologize but there is no refund or class make up session we can offer. If another student tests positive and lets us know, we will inform the class and it will be up to you to decide whether you feel comfortable returning. If one of our teachers tests positive and needs to cancel class 1 or 2 times we will refund you a proportionate amount ($30 per class). If further sessions must be cancelled we will offer you credit towards another class session. Have more questions? Not a problem! Please email us at admin@clayfolkstudio.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Non-members: $180 Members: $110 Location: Occidental, CA (Location will be sent to participants 1 week prior to your purchased workshop) Workshops run from 10AM - 4PM Bring 3-5 ceramic pieces (about coffee mug sized) or 2 larger forms. Skinny wheel thrown or sculptural work is best. Plates and wide bowls are risky. We will glaze and prep pieces to be loaded into the kiln. We'll be providing a variety of raku glaze options, including crackles, turquoise & copper glazes, and saggar techniques. Review of fired pots. Learn to refine your glaze application! We'll run 4-5 raku firings over the course of the day! *** Please note that raku fired pots are never fully vitrified, making them not food-safe or water tight. We have liquid quartz for sealing pots for an extra cost.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Congratulations on joining Clayfolk’s Glaze Daze class! In this session, Ryusuke Konishi and Scott Nickel are teaming up to teach you how to refine your glazing techniques. In this deep dive focused solely on glazing, you will explore ways to imagine ahead of time how glaze will be affected by the size and shape of your wares, how to dip and layer with more precision, and get direct feedback on your results from our seasoned teachers. By the end of the class, you will feel more confident and intentional in your glaze practice, on your way to becoming a glaze wizard. Stay tuned for additional glaze courses coming to continue expanding on the skills you will learn in this session. Projects include: Glazing all of the below pieces made by the students Required prerequisite: Students of this class must have the following pieces made and bisque fired in time for the first class of their chosen session: Already fired bisque-ware! This said, inevitably there will be new information gained for those who chose to take BOTH sessions. Q: Can I make up a class? A: Unfortunately not, we recommend trying to make it to each class, but you do have open studio time the rest of the week to come and play. Q: When are Open Studio Hours? A: Student Open Studio Hours are: Thursday-Monday 12 PM-7 PM). If another student tests positive and let’s us know, we will inform the class and it will be up to you to decide whether you feel comfortable returning.

<image:caption>Ever wondered what it feels like to throw clay on the wheel? Our Wheel Taster Classes are designed just for that—a short, fun, hands-on experience with no strings attached. In this 2-hour session, you’ll get your hands muddy learning the basics of centering and shaping clay on the wheel. These classes are all about play and exploration—not production—so you won’t be making a finished piece to take home. Instead, you’ll simply enjoy the process of working with clay and seeing what happens. Perfect for those who’ve never touched clay before, or for anyone wanting to reconnect without committing to a 6-week series. Think of it as a creative “taste test” to see if the wheel is calling you.
